The overall aim of STAR4BBS is to maximize the potential of Sustainability Certification Schemes (SCS) and labels to support a successful transition to sustainable bio-based economy.
CREATION OF A NEW MONITORING SYSTEM
At the core of STAR4BBS is the development of indicators and a new monitoring system for assessing the effectiveness and robustness of existing international and EU schemes and related traceability systems, applicable to biological feedstock and bio-based materials and products. Through STAR4BBS new monitoring system, existing SCS and labels will be analyzed.
ACHIEVE SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
As well as additional research on certified and uncertified trade flows and on the impacts and costs and benefits of certification and labels, STAR4BBS new monitoring system will substantially increase the understanding of the potential of SCS to contribute to the achievements of Sustainability Goals and other important green policies, like the EU Green Deal.
LOOKING FOR AN ACTIVE ROLE OF STAKEHOLDERS
STAR4BBS will involve relevant stakeholders (e.g. scheme owners, feedstock producers and transformation industries, policymakers) in the design of research phase, as well as in the evaluation of the monitoring system and, finally, in the development of practical recommendations to exploit after the end of the project.
